How Not to Sell Your Home!

Last week I showed a home on the market for $900,000. We were greeted by the smiling homeowner who asked us to please remove our shoes. No problem, right? We all took off our shoes and began looking at the home. Upon entering the living room my client said, “Oh my, there is water on the carpet.” Before long we were encircled by three of the cutest little puppies, all very excited to see us! After stepping in a few more puddles of “water”, my clients decided they had seen enough of the house and wanted to leave. Even though the home was lovely and met all of their needs it was off the list of possibilities- just like that! We didn’t even finish viewing the home. As much as you may love your pets, the best way to sell your home is to make sure your pets out of sight while showing your home. And, if you even think there is a possibility of someone stepping in something please don’t make them take their shoes off!

Choosing Your Home

Many people are overwhelmed when they begin their search to find a new home. It is especially hard if you have a limited amount of time and need to see several properties in one day. Pretty soon all of the houses start running together and you can’t remember any of them!

I have found it very helpful to buyers to always compare the first two houses they see. If you had to pick one of them, which one would it be? Now just try to remember the house you like best, compare only it to the next house and so on. Your Realtor may want to revisit your first choice at the end of that day. If you like it well enough to write an offer on great, write it. If not, then revisit that home first the next time you look at homes.

Always keep in mind that no home is perfect, but hopefully it won’t take long to find a home that meets your needs that you can move into and make your own!
